Hello and welcome to my site. I’m Steve Mair and I’m an information security consultant. My goal in life is to help protect people from cyber related issues through raising awareness and providing sensible guidance.
I need to say from the outset that the thoughts and opinions I share here are my personal viewpoint, and do not reflect those of my employers.
I trained as a mechanical engineer and got into IT in the days when you had to build PCs from component parts. Shortly after picking up support for my first office network I started to implement security measures and policies: that was back in the 1980s. I’ve been working in security ever since, and have built my career round pragmatic solutions which provide appropriate protection for my clients while enabling them to function as a business.
My intention with this site is to provide some practical advice and guidance, to debunk some of the myths in industry and to perhaps clarify some of the buzzwords and trends around at the moment. I hope you enjoy what you read here!
